I'm new to this and need to give directions to my listeners (my 8th grade students) how to download my podcast notes for them onto thier ipods.  How do I explain this to them?

Unless you're creating an Enhanced Podcast, there's no simple way to download notes onto an iPod. The RSS feed will contain your notes, but this is usually only displayed in the software itself, such as iTunes.

So I created a podcast right.  Now when they go to retrieve it they can play it on their computer or they can download it into itunes right?  How do you download a podcast into itunes?  Can they also subscribe so that it downloads automatically? 

Yes, they can subscribe automatically in iTunes. To do that, you'll need to configure your account for iTunes, which you can do here:
